Lollapalooza 2009 - Wrap-up

Well it has been a week since Lollapalooza's 2009 edition hit Grant Park. Overall this year was good, but felt like a let down after the epic Battle of Chicago, Radiohead & NIN combo that was Lolla 2008. Below is a link to the pics and some info on what I saw.

Lollapalooza 2009

Some bands I saw:
The Decemberists - Probably the highlight of the weekend for me. They played at 6pm Friday and fittingly it was right about the time when it finally stopped raining. As expected they performed their latest album The Hazards of Love in its entirety. Given that this is one of my favorite albums of 2009, I thoroughly enjoyed their set.

Tool - I'd like to gloat here and mention that I predicted that they would play this year's show very soon after Lollapalooza 2008. While I did not post that here, take my word for it. Regardless, this was my most anticipated set of the weekend. I knew going in that they weren't going to play my favorite song of theirs, "Sober", but regardless it was a great set that included "Schism" & "Lateralus" from my favorite album of theirs Lateralus. Also, mark my words here Muse will be a headliner at Lolla 2010.

Jane's Addiction - I didn't expect much from these guys, but their performance was pretty good. Interesting opening with the helicopter's swarming around too.

Snoop Dogg - Had everyone partying. His second song was "Gin and Juice". 'nuff said.

Coheed & Cambria - I have a couple of their albums and haven't heard much from their newer stuff, but they played a lot of their old hits and overall rocked harder than just about anyone I saw. Pleasant surprise.

Kings of Leon - They were ok, but after their set I was regretting missing Depeche Mode. :-( oh well.

Some others I saw: Rise Against, Silversun Pickups, Gaslight Anthem, Ben Folds, Manchester Orchestra, Deadmau5, Band of Horses (for one song), Animal Collective.

Lollla-eve

Well August has arrived and with it we have passed the one year anniversary of the Battle of Chicago. However, all is not lost as Lollapalooza 2009 is less than 24 hours away. I will post a heaping amount of pictures and material from the fest. Let's hope the rain holds off.

Cheers.
